On June 11, the world's first ± 500kV three terminal DC project undertaken by China Southern Power Grid - Yunnan Guizhou interconnection channel project was officially completed. Yunnan Guizhou interconnection channel project is the first DC transmission line in China to change "two ends" to "three ends". Through the new Luquan converter station, it is connected to the completed Guizhou to Guangdong line, forming a three terminal DC transmission channel across Luquan converter station in Yunnan, Gaopo converter station in Guizhou and Zhaoqing converter station in Guangdong. It can send about 6 billion kwh of clean hydropower in Yunnan to Dawan District of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao every year, It is equivalent to reducing thermal power standard coal by about 1.8 million tons and carbon dioxide emission by about 4.8 million tons. Under the double challenges of tight construction period and new crown epidemic situation, the ABB power grid has provided 500 thousand volt gas insulated switchgear (GIS) and gas insulated metal enclosed line (GIL) busbar products on schedule, and completed on-site installation and commissioning as scheduled.

After the project is put into operation, an additional 8 million KW channel power transmission capacity will be added, which can transport about 33 billion kwh of clean hydropower in Yunnan to Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, Dawan district and Guangxi load center every year, which is equivalent to reducing the consumption of standard coal by about 10 million tons and reducing carbon dioxide by 26.6 million tons, effectively promoting energy conservation, emission reduction and air pollution prevention and control.
